However, make no mistake! As much as He loves us, He hates our sin. Sin causes separation from God. It is not a question of God’s love for us, but our love for God. If we love Him, we will obey Him. (John 14:15). The incorruptible seed He places within us, when we are born again, makes it possible to love Him, and therefore, obey Him. In addition, we need a broken, contrite and willing spirit to sustain us, which insures us that we will obey Him.

There is a very great reward in obeying God. A child, even though he is an heir, as long as he is a child, is no better than a servant; but even the servant by his obedience will be elevated to the status of friend. (Galatians 4:1 paraphrased). A friend, then, will be taken into the secret places of the Most High God where God will share His thoughts and plans for the future. What an awesome thought. (Psalm 25:14, Proverbs 3:32-b, Amos 3:7 paraphrased).

Within this one verse are five of the greatest love statements God ever made … “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

What He is really saying to us is: 1) He loves us. 2) Because of this huge, unconditional love, He gave. 3) What He gave to us was His most precious gift, His Son. 4) His Son gives us ‘someOne’ to believe in. 5) When we believe in Him, we are assured we will never die, but have everlasting life.

Think about this Scripture for a moment. Isn’t true love all about giving? Not that God needed to prove His love for mankind, but this verse alone proves His great love for us and the future plan He has for our lives, both here and forever.
